Can’t believe we’re at the end of April already. At least we filed our income taxes on time and for the first time in almost two decades we’re due for a REFUND. HOORAY!
A few years ago when we lived in New Hampshire, we had a cocktail buffet to celebrate the “Run for the Roses.” Many of those we invited didn’t know what it meant. But once we explanined that it was the Kentucky Derby, all got into the groove; invitees drew numbers out of a hat corresponding to each horse in the running. For two minutes they felt as if they were at Churchill Downs in Louisville and after the race the persons holding the win, place and show numbers were given prizes. We did this for a couple of years. Even now about this time of year we receive emails telling us how much those who were there enjoyed the experience. Now a reminder, Saturday May 5 is Derby Day and we hope many of you will enjoy the event as much as we do.
We’re anxioulsy watching our new zoysa sod take root. We have to do quite a lot of watering for the first three week. After that the zoysa should be sufficiently mature to exist with occasional watering; a lot less then what the old grass required. Besides the zoysa should be a lot more heat and drought tolerant.
After a book signing in Tyler, TX, we visited with our older son and granddaughters. We hadn’t seen them in a while so it was a treat for us. While we were up there we also took in a car show; some really nice machines to drool over. One was a blue ’76 Olds 442 in pristine condition. BTW, the location for the show was on property where the owner had shops that restored old cars. Seeing the restorations in various states was quite interesting.
After four disappointing movies in a row, we’re looking forward to seeing The Raven with John Cusak this weekend. Remember his starring in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; a pretty good flick.
